Alpha Delta Pi works to save Philanthropy

March 18, 2007 -The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) of Morgantown, supported by the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi, has been giving refuge to the families of critically ill children receiving medical care in the Morgantown area since 1990, but they are temporarily unable to provide that support because of a break in the sprinkler system on Feb. 5.

The Ronald McDonald House, the philanthropy of Alpha Delta Pi nationwide, provides families a place to stay at a very nominal cost, allowing them to focus their energies on their ill loved one and not on how they are going to pay a big lodging bill.

The flooding within the building damaged ceiling tiles, walls, carpets, some furniture, the telephone system and safety system, and soaked insulation in hallways, families’ rooms, offices, and storage areas, said Mike Balassone, board president for Ronald McDonald Charities of Morgantown.

The house was full at the time, housing 16 families. Thankfully no one in the building was injured>

In response to this misfortune, the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi have responded with a plan to help RMH open it’s doors once again.

During Philanthropy Night of sorority recruitment, the sisters invited potential members to assist them in making toiletry caddies. These caddies, filled with shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and other necessities, are currently being sent to the families, who are currently residing in local hotels.

Alpha Delta Pi is also planning a food drive to assist RMH is restocking its very large pantry.

The sisters have asked for assistance from both fraternities and sororities.

Money is also an issue for the non-profit organization.

In partnership with Pizza Hut, the sisters will be participating in the Monday night waitresses program. As a result, sisters will be allowed to wait tables and seat customers and in return will be allowed to keep anything they make in tips.

All money made at the event will be donated to RMH>

The sisters plan to work at Pizza Hut Monday, April 3rd and Monday, April 16th  from 5-9 pm.

They ask for support from the entire WVWC community and appreciate any help they receive.
