Food Village Provides Major Donatation to Parish House
October 24, 2007 - West Virginia Wesleyan’s annual homecoming weekend featured an array of receptions, banquets, and athletic events. Alumni across the country returned to the campus to renew old friendships and to make new memories. However, the event that will make the most lasting impact on Upshur County was the second annual Food Village.
Wesleyan students, faculty, staff, and alumni constructed the village with non-perishable items to replicate the College’s campus. Co-sponsored by Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Community Council, the “village” collected and delivered 4,629 non-perishable food items to the Upshur Parish House.
“We are certainly appreciative of everyone’s donations and of the wonderful support from campus organizations,” said Leslie Beavers ‘07, VISTA volunteer at Wesleyan. “We especially want to thank our committee leaders: Taran Parsons, Zak Ritchie, Erica Smith, Megan Sponaugle, and Jamion Wolford.”
Alpha Delta Pi collected 681 items to lead all campus organizations. Residents in Jenkins Hall contributed 321 items to win the residence hall category, while the staff in the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library led all Wesleyan departments with 171 items.
“We are grateful to the Wesleyan campus community,” noted Jessica Auxier ’07, VISTA volunteer at the Parish House. “The Parish House food pantry has been low the past few weeks. We are now better equipped to serve the residents of Upshur County.”
