Alpha Gamma Delta Profile: Philanthropy

October 6, 2007 - This year the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta have many events and fundraisers planned to help support their philanthropic organization the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation was founded in 1962 to help raise awareness for diabetes research and education. Furthermore, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation provides educational, philanthropic, and leadership opportunities for women through a number of academic grants and scholarships.

This year the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta began their philanthropy endeavors on the fiftieth of September by helping set up at the annual Children’s Festival at Stockert Youth Center. Secondly, each year the organization plans a visit to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, where they visit the pediatric ward. The sisters plan on donating homemade coloring books and boxes of crayons to the children at Ruby Memorial.  In the coming weeks, the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta will begin collecting cans and empty ink cartridges to help raise money to donate to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. There will be drop boxes for ink cartridges in various locations throughout campus, including Benedum Campus Center.  Alpha Gamma Delta also plans to collaborate with various organizations on campus for Operation Christmas Child, which decorates and mails shoeboxes filled with hygiene products and small toys overseas to many underprivileged children, and the Head Start gift wrapping campaign in late November.

The sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta are very proud of the philanthropic contributions that they make each year to Wesleyan and the surrounding communities.

The sisters always strive to donate more time and money to help others in need and this year will be no exception, we look forward to the upcoming events planned for the remainder of the year and next semester.
