Getz Wins Wesleyan Idol 5 Competition

October 03, 2007 -Scott Getz was selected as the winner of the Wesleyan Idol 5 competition during West Virginia Wesleyan’s Family Weekend. Getz, a senior majoring in music education from Revloc, PA, sang “Piano Man” by Billy Joel. Christopher Blackburn ’04, assistant director of admission at Wesleyan, accompanied him on the piano.

For his efforts, Getz won the $250 grand prize. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) sponsored Wesleyan Idol 5 which is based on the hit television show American Idol. Twenty-three students auditioned during the preliminary round and the number was reduced to ten for the finals.

The nine other finalist included Reba Altizer from Frankford, WV; Nicole Biondi from Charleston, WV; Austin Kritzer from Fairmont, WV; Latasha Midcap from Proctor, WV; Veronika Ohlinger from Letart, WV; D. J. Phillips from Vienna, WV; Harlem Short from New York, NY; Meghan Stokes from McKeesport, PA; and Amanda White of Buckhannon, WV. The alternate is Katie Rhodes from Parkersburg, WV.

“Wesleyan Idol is one of the most anticipated events of the year,” said Alisa Lively, director of campus activities and summer conference programs. “We are fortunate to have so many students with great musical talent.”
