Zeta Tau Alpha Receives National Award

Julyl 30, 2007 -For the fourth consecutive year, the West Virginia Wesleyan College Delta Upsilon Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha has been recognized for excellence by Zeta’s National Council by being awarded the prestigious “Crown Chapter.” Chapter president Ashley Gaydac of Parkersburg, WV, vice president Shari Rodvelt of Hurricane, WV, and treasurer Maria Rodriguez of New Martinsville, WV, were on hand in Indianapolis, IN earlier this month at the National Conference to receive the award.

Since Zeta Tau Alpha’s incorporation into the Greek system at Wesleyan in 1963, it has strived to achieve high ratings in 17 areas needed for the Crown Chapter Award. The sisters’ consistent support for their philanthropy, the Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) Foundation, is one of the most visible reasons for this chapter award. The Foundation supports breast cancer education and awareness and the Wesleyan Chapter annually sponsors fundraisers such as “Mr. Wesleyan,” “Kiss Away Cancer,” and a 24-hour “Bounce-A-Thon” during homecoming. During the 2007 semester, the Wesleyan chapter raised over $300 for the ZTA Foundation.

In addition to their dedication to the fight against cancer, sorority members are involved in a number of other service projects on campus and in the Buckhannon community. Christine Lansdale of Winfield, WV, a ZTA member since 2005, exemplifies the Chapter. In addition to her outstanding academic accomplishments, Lansdale participates in ZTA Executive Council, gives tours for the College’s Office of Admission, and coaches a children’s basketball team. This spirit of dedication by Lansdale and others is one of the primary reasons why Wesleyan was awarded the Crown Chapter again this year.

The National Council also noted the ZTA sisters consistently meet their financial obligations, achieve the national membership quota, fulfill chapter goals, and show a positive attitude toward National Council. The Wesleyan ZTA chapter also earned the “Highest GPA Award” for all campus sororities with a 3.385 cumulative grade point average.

“It is a massive honor for each sister for her chapter to be recognized by the National Council,” said Gaydac. “With the strength of our ZTA Chapter, we should continue to receive national awards.”
